What is Carhartt?

What is Carhartt?

Carhartt was founded by Hamilton Carhartt back in 1889 (!) making heavy workwear overalls in the US. Opening up new factories all around the country during the upcoming decades while simultaneously testing out new products resulted in Carhartt for a short breach of time manufacturing cars, the Carhartt Automobile Corporation. The more you know! They also supplied US soldiers with reliable gear during both world wars and therefore saw great economic growth during this period.

As time went on Carhartt became more widely used in casual occasions as well, and with the help of street culture and rap sparked the idea of a brand focusing on just that. 1994 marks the birth of Carhartt WIP (Work In Progress) with the European market as a target. By branching out into carefully selected areas, such as skate, BMX, and record labels, Carhartt WIP has managed to keep evolving while also staying true to its roots.

Today Carhartt's Single Knee Pant and Chore Coat are just some of the many staple pieces in a streetwear enthusiast wardrobe, and that will probably remain to be the case!
